Our People

The Castan Centre for Human Rights Law is an academic centre formed within the Faculty of Law at Monash University. The Castan Centre was formed as tribute to the late Ron Castan QC AO  and its work is intended to continue the struggle for the recognition and respect of human rights for all people within the Australian and international community, a task that was the centrepiece of much of Ron’s work.

The Castan Centre aims to focus and strengthen the human rights interests of academic staff and doctoral students. The centre is committed to expanding the subject choices available for undergraduate and graduate students, enhancing research opportunities for staff and students, initiating student and staff human rights placement programs, coordinating and hosting lectures and conferences, hosting academics and professionals from other institutions, producing publications, and liaising with the community and the profession.

The Castan Centre's current structure is:
