Anna Forsyth - Human Rights Career Series

Some Tips for Pursuing a Career in Human Rights Law

When presenting at a career seminar at Monash University in September, Anna Forsyth, Legal Officer, Human Rights Unit, Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission, shared the following tips in pursuing a career in human rights law:

  • Make sure you build a network of like-minded colleagues– it can be particularly valuable to establish relationships with older mentors who have extensive experience in the law.
  • Make sure you are constantly seeking out professional development opportunities in human rights – whether through involvement in committees, attendance at seminars/lectures or participation in the organisation of events/projects.
  • Make sure you publish in areas of interest in journals or magazines that have a human rights focus.

AND

  • Most importantly, follow your passions and surround yourself with positive people in the law!
