Professional Profile

After graduating from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg South Africa, Adiva completed articles and become a partner in a law firm where she practiced until her immigration to Australia in 1986. In 1989 she commenced practice in Australia exclusively in the area of Family Law. In 1993 she completed an LLM thesis at Monash University entitled ‘De Facto Property Rights in Victoria. She has recently completed her PhD thesis entitled ‘Children and the Lesbian Homo-nuclear Family: A Challenge for Australian Family Law in the New Millenium’. While her main research interest is in family law she also has an interest in legal education and property law.
